If you want people are still using the old links, that just goes to show you that the new links aren't meeting their requirements. Make the new pages work as well as the old pages and we'll move.

If I use the old pages, I can't find new shows. If I use the new pages, I can't find anything. Which one do you think I'm going to prefer?

I'm actually in the middle of a major Web site redesign.
[of an example website]

The idea was to make things EASIER to access. There was obviously very little thought that went into this redesign. If the job was done well people would be complementing you on the new features not crying about them being gone. Usually when you do a redesign you check with the users to see what they want, in this case it seems like that important point was totally just overlooked.

Hopefully you can restore the functionality that so many people are complaining is missing.

Usually you get suggestions prior to making the change and leave the features accessible and intact. From what I can tell way most folks browse for shows is now gone. When I click on the link to view the collection all the artists show up but just with a fraction of the shows that you used to see, now you have to click through like 4 times as deep to show the same results. Not very efficent for users of the site.

The Browse by Year feature has been asked for. If it can be built, it will be.

Would it have been nice if they had put more time into building all the old features before flipping the switch? Absolutely. But time is money, and so is the hundreds of hours a month they spent keeping the old system floating. They flipped it quick so they could get those hours back and not duplicate efforts.

Your patience and support is appreciated.

You guys are starting to sound like government agency.

I record and upload many shows in support of the archive and completely appreciate and advocate the use of this resource. I'm surprised that you take my suggestions as negativity instead of seeing it as a suggestion to make the site better instead of worse.

When you redesign a site one of the most important goals is to make it easier for people to use not more difficult, hence my post regarding the excuses which sound like they come from a gov't agency. No need to resort to name calling.

In the context of this discussion, I'm not sure how this out of nowhere statement:

"You guys are starting to sound like government agency."

Can be seen as anything other than an insult. As soon as someone starts throwing mud, they aren't worth spending time responding to (a.k.a forum troll - picking verbal fights)

If that's not how you intended it, I'm sorry - maybe be a little more careful with your choice of words next time.

When you redesign a site one of the most important goals is to make it easier for people to use not more difficult

Have you uploaded anything? Re-tagged your files and re-created the derivatives? Checked anything out and replaced 1 or 2 files without asking someone else to help? Have you noticed that the process of checking items into the collection is much faster? I'm guessing you haven't. If you are a contributor, the site is 10 times better. This was the main reason for the changes - to make it easier for them, and it did in a huge way. Without the people who send recordings, this website wouldn't exist and they were in drastic need of improvements. The rest of the features being called for will come with time if they are possible with the new architecture.

What is needed to get there is patience. The feature requests that were clear and well illustrated have all been considered and documented for the engineers to build. Please don't expect all of them to be done in a week. Now that the old system is shut off, they can spend less of their time maintaining that and more of their time building improvements into the new system.

More posts about "you should have done this or that" do nothing more than clutter up the forum so please refrain. The change has been made and is now irreversible.

You may not want to clog up the forum with "pat on the back" comments, so I'll be brief. I think the archive is incredible and a tremendous service. Thanks to all who work on it.
